Initial meeting and preparation of detailed quotation

Every project is a collaboration of clients ideas and our expertise at arriving at a design solution that will stand the test of time, both in visual and usage terms. At our first meeting we will discuss the item of bespoke furniture you have in mind. We usually meet at the location where the furniture is to be used, so that I can understand your requirements and take initial measurements. I will advise you as the the most appropriate woods to use and we can plan how your ideas can be translated into functional, beautiful furniture. I will prepare a detailed quotation of costs and timings for you to consider.

Furniture designs drawn up and agreed

When you accept the quotation, I will then prepare furniture designs for your approval. In some case, when I am working for an interior designer or architect this stage is unnecessary as detailed drawings are available. We'll meet again to go through the designs and see if any modifications are necessary.

Furniture making

This is undertaken at the workshop where I am assisted by Tom. Our workshop is located at Ibstone, just off the M40 near Stokenchurch. You may like to visit the workshops to see your furniture in progress.

Fitting and finishing

This is the most rewarding stage of furniture making. The careful fitting to take account of uneven floors and walls - which happens in even modern properties. The furniture is finished with a protective coating that will suit its function, be it waxing, lacquer or french polish. When necessary, I draw on the skills of professional finishers when matching old woods in period properties.
